About – Universities and Colleges Student’s Peace Association of Kenya(UCSPAK)

Universities and Colleges Students’ Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK) is a non political Student Association established with the major objective of fostering Peace and Good Governance in institutions of learning in Kenya. The Association was founded in the wake of the tragic Garissa University terrorist attack, one of the darkest days in Kenya’s history.

On April 2nd, 2015,four armed terrorists stormed Garissa University College, mercilessly opening fire on innocent students. This brutal attack claimed the lives of 147 people, most of whom were students. According to the Ministry of Internal Security and Coordination of National Government, more than 500 students managed to escape the attack, while 79 others were injured.

This incident not only caused panic across educational institutions in Kenya but also raised global concerns about student safety. Security agencies warned that extremist and criminal groups were increasingly targeting learning institutions for their illegal activities.

In response to these threats and other emerging challenges, UCSPAK was formed to foster peace and good governance in institutions of learning in Kenya. The association remains committed to creating a safe learning environment while empowering students to become Peace ambassadors.

UCSPAK also serves as a voice and a bridge, ensuring that the Government of Kenya and other stakeholders stay informed about the views and aspirations of students.
